Project description
The project transforms a 65 m² apartment in a 1960s residential building in Paradiso into two independent studio apartments. The original unit, characterised by a dual aspect and two balconies, was completely stripped back: all internal partitions were demolished, while the existing kitchen, finishes and flooring were removed to reveal a continuous and flexible space.
The new layout introduces an additional bathroom, a storage room and two compact kitchens, allowing each apartment to operate autonomously. A shared entrance area is organised around a custom-built storage unit, from which two separate doors provide access to the individual studios. Services and fixed elements are concentrated along the perimeter, leaving the centre as open and unobstructed as possible and maximising the perception of space.
The kitchens are integrated into niches. At the centre of each studio, a sofa bed defines the living and sleeping area. Curtains can enclose the beds when required, creating an intimate space conceived as a contemporary reinterpretation of the canopy bed. Through light partitions, visual continuity and layered transparencies, the project balances privacy and openness within a compact domestic environment.
