Project description
The project for the Casa dei Landfogti in Monteceneri represents a major intervention of restoration and renewal of one of the municipality’s most important historical assets. Built in the 17th century as the Casa dei Landfogti, the building has undergone numerous transformations that altered its original L-shaped plan. The new strategy seeks to recover architectural balance by demolishing later, less significant additions, constructing a new civic building to the south, and restoring the historic house with respectful methods.
The new structure, placed in dialogue with the Casa without touching it, completes the courtyard, transforming it into a protected civic square. Inside, the historic building becomes a cultural centre with permanent and temporary exhibitions, while the new volume houses municipal offices, public services, a multi-purpose hall and a café. Open circulation spines and generous openings ensure visual continuity with the courtyard, while outdoor works enhance pedestrian connections and accessibility. The ensemble thus becomes a civic and cultural hub, rooted in heritage yet open to contemporary community life.
